This book depicts the thirty years of war that shook Germany in the years 1618-1648 as well as the many other conflicts that proceeded at the same time in different parts of Europe. Among other things the book deals with top-level politics, battles of importance, everyday life in the field and of the civilian population, recruitment of soldiers and how the recollection of the war has been handed down to posterity.
